Skin tags: what they are and how removal works

Skin tags are common and harmless, but they can be annoying. Here’s why they appear and what removal involves.

Skin tags are small, soft, usually skin-coloured growths that hang from the skin. They are common, benign and often appear where skin rubs — the neck, underarms, eyelids and under the breasts.

Why they appear

Friction, genetics, hormonal changes and weight changes can all play a part. They are not contagious.

Should they be removed?

There is no medical need to remove a harmless skin tag, but many people choose to because they catch on jewellery or clothing, or simply for appearance.

How removal works at Skin Byoode

  1. Assessment: we confirm the growth is a simple skin tag. Anything unusual is referred appropriately.
  2. Removal: a quick, precise in-clinic procedure.
  3. Aftercare: keep the area clean and dry and follow the aftercare guidance we give you.

Do not try to cut or tie off skin tags at home — it risks bleeding and infection.
